31st Annual Blue & Gold Ball 2014
Saturday 12th April 2014

The Chartwell Suite of The Hyatt Regency, Churchill in London's Portman Square was once again the venue for the Blue & Gold Ball, the Annual Gala Dinner Dance of the Old Royalists' Association in the United Kingdom (ORAUK). The event was  held for the 31st consecutive year, on the 12th of April, with all the glamour and razzmatazz one has got accustomed to associating with this much anticipated  spring event, attended by a large number of  erstwhile Reid Avenue scholars, their partners and friends.

The curtain raiser for the evening was a Champagne reception held in the Library suite, where the President of the  Association, Mr Mohamed Hussain and Mrs. Ameera Hussain welcomed the guests before being  treated  to a sumptuous three course meal accompanied by fine wine in the grandeur of the  Chartwell Suite.

Dr. Daya Pandita-Gunawardena proposed  the toast for Royal College, preceded by a toast to the Association by its' President. The dancing to the music of "Suresh and the Breeze" was briefly interrupted by the Grand Raffle and the auction of two business class return air tickets to Colombo on Srilankan Airlines. Dr Kusum Subesinghe's solo rendition, of some of the numbers from her recently released debut album, with backing from her Old Royalist husband Nyanissara on the keyboard was an added highlight.

The proceedings concluded in the small hours of Sunday morning, with some aging but lusty throats that once sang in the school choir on the prize day, yet again  raising a cheer with their rendition of the school song "School of Our Fathers", but now with balding heads or with hair turning  "fifty shades of grey"
